Where to Give Back This Holiday Season in Newmarket, Aurora & Bradford

As the festive season approaches, many families across our community are struggling to make ends meet. The good news is that there are several ways to help right here in Newmarket, Aurora and Bradford. Local charities and community programs are once again collecting donations to spread warmth and joy to those who need it most. One of the most well-known is the Holiday Heroes Toy Drive, organized by York Regional Police. Taking place from November 15 to December 19, 2025, the program gathers new, unwrapped toys, non-perishable food, hygiene products, and gift cards. You can drop off donations at NewRoads dealerships in Newmarket, Aurora, and Richmond Hill, or at the York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora.

While toy donations for younger children are always generous, older kids and teens are often overlooked. Consider adding items like makeup, hair accessories, gift cards, or small gadgets to your donation list. These thoughtful contributions help ensure teenagers also feel seen and included in the holiday spirit.

Infants and babies are another group that benefit greatly from community support during the holidays. Items such as diapers, baby formula, wipes, shampoo, sleepers, and cozy blankets can make a real difference for new parents facing financial hardship. Small developmental toys, rattles, and bottles are also helpful and appreciated.

In addition to Holiday Heroes, other local organizations are making an impact this season. The Newmarket Lions Club Santa Fund provides grocery gift cards to families who could use some extra help putting food on the table. In Bradford, the Fire & Emergency Services Department runs its own toy drive for local families, while the Town of Aurora hosts an annual food and toy drive with collection bins located at its municipal offices on Mulock Drive. Contributing to these local efforts ensures your donations stay within the community and reach families nearby.

Food security remains a major need year-round. The Newmarket Food Pantry, which serves more than 2,300 residents every month, welcomes donations of non-perishable food and household essentials. The Helping Hand Food Bank in Bradford offers a similar service, allowing clients to shop for groceries once a month. Donations can be made during their open hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. For those wanting to give clothing, Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora runs the Clothes Closet, where residents can find gently used clothing free of charge. Drop-off bins are located behind the church.

Every contribution - whether a toy, meal, or warm coat - helps bring comfort to someone in your community. Supporting these local charities is a simple but powerful way to make the holidays brighter for families in Newmarket, Aurora and Bradford.
